Keeping track of signatures[]

This is just a thought, but I can't help but notice that a lot of artist use signature markings. I was wondering, wouldn't it be rational to have an easily acessible page on this wiki where people could easily identify signature marks or styles of artists?~ Jacktoland (talk) 17:08, September 26, 2019 (GMT)

This topic has come up before, because it is sometimes the only thing we have to go on when trying to determine an artist credit. I think just a simple page with a <gallery> of signature images with the artist's name as the caption would be very useful. Since it is OOU, it should go in the Forgotten Realms Wiki namespace. What about all our sourcebook articles? Should those also be moved to the Forgotten Realms Wiki namespace also? ~ Lhynard (talk) 23:08, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
No, I think those are valid articles with standard sections and infoboxes. The artist's signature gallery would be just that, more like a tool than an article, much like the Forgotten Realms Wiki:DM's Helper Tool (3e). Also, it is just for editors and not for readers. —Moviesign (talk) 00:08, September 27, 2019 (UTC)
That makes a lot of sense, yes. Originally, your argument above was to put it there "since it is OoU," which is a completely different argument. I agree that it should go into the Forgotten Realms Wiki namespace and that the sourcebook articles should not. ~ Lhynard (talk) 00:28, September 27, 2019 (UTC)
I should have said "since it is OOU, unlike other galleries on the wiki". Sorry for the confusion. —Moviesign (talk) 13:43, September 28, 2019 (UTC)
great idea! ~ Lhynard (talk) 23:08, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
Given that it's been agreed that this should probably be done, would it be logical to assume that the first step would be to begin compiling a list of artists who use signature marks or styles?~ Jacktoland (talk) 13:42, September 28, 2019 (GMT)
I think all artists sign their work, but on many occasions TSR and WotC cropped them or removed them for reasons of design. So I don't see much point in creating a list. Just start with whatever artist you like and let the gallery grow organically as more are added. As for style, I don't think that is quantifiable. Artists change their style depending on the project and the medium they are working with at the time—comic art vs. sourcebook art, or ink vs. pencil vs. watercolors, for example. Hopefully, one or two signature images will suffice in the vast majoriy of cases. —Moviesign (talk) 13:54, September 28, 2019 (UTC)
