Year the book takes place.
The sorry does not take place in 1492. The Gazetteer give us the polictical and socal climate in Baldur's Gate as of 1492, but the story does not take place then. In the Chapter 1, The Companion, it states that the Companion appeard over Elturel in 1444. The pact that created it states that Elturel will be forfeit to Zariel in 50 years. This puts the year at 1494.
