Drow[]

Is this the same spell that some drow have? Specificity Drizzt? Terrorblades - This is recorded live at 23:57, May 10, 2014 (UTC)

I would say yes. In 2nd edition, high level rangers could cast low level priest spells. Since this is the reverse of the 1st level cleric spell light, it is reasonable that he would be able to cast it. The spell description should probably include rangers in the classes able to cast this spell. —Moviesign (talk) 00:20, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
Woops, I spoke too quickly. Rangers in 2nd edition only had access to the Plant sphere and the Animal sphere which does not include darkness. So, either the author gave him the wizard spell Darkness, 15' radius, or he stretched the rules a bit for artistic license. I think he just made him a natural wizard. —Moviesign (talk) 00:32, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
Actually, according to several sourcebooks (in this case, I looked it up in the 2nd edition The Drow of the Underdark), this is one of three spell-like abilities all drow innately have, the others being faerie fire and dancing lights (though I've never seen this one used in any novels involving drow). So while most require some sort of spellcasting ability to summon darkness, drow can do so innately. In fact, that sourcebook also says that the size of a drow darkness sphere grows larger as they gain experience.
It is worth noting that Drow of the Underdark says most drow can only use these abilities once every 24 hours. This is contradicted by later sourcebooks and by the novels by R.A. Salvatore, so it is a possibility that Bob influenced the game. 68.36.46.141 14:36, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
Good to know, thanks. So which spell (divine or arcane) does their ability most closely resemble? —Moviesign (talk) 16:07, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
So could I add a Image from the comic then where drizzt uses a sphere of darkness around Icingdeath's (Dragon) head? Would that be a appropriate image? Terrorblades - This is recorded live at 19:14, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
Sure, images showing the casting or results of a spell would be appropriate. —Moviesign (talk) 20:20, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
