This is the oldest Netherese spell?[]
I have always wondered if it was a joke by the game designers to make the extension spells the first ones in their list of Netherese spell inventions. Most spells from the Player's Handbook 2nd edition which are not named for mages from Greyhawk get a Netherese inventor. That leaves only the most basic ones, read magic, detect magic, dispel magic, as well as permanency and possibly cantrip and wizard mark, for the Netherese to learn from the elves, and very little reason to employ extension I, etc. What do you think about that?
That does have one more serious implication, however: For this system to make sense, the elves and the early Netherese would have needed to used other spells than those described in the sourcebooks. - Probably more primitive ones which fell out of use when the arcanists got their system really going.
