Conflict[]

This article states, "Any other gulguthra, even those of a different type, could then fertilize the eggmass," but the Neo-otyugh article says, "Neo-otyughs were a distinct species of gulguthra, and thus were unable to breed with regular otyughs." Both statements supposedly come from the same source. Which one is correct? ~ Lhynard (talk) 15:13, April 14, 2020 (UTC)

The first one is correct according to Dragon #96. The Monster Manual 1st edition states that neo-otyughs are larger, more intelligent species of otyugh, so I assumed that couldn't breed to produce fertile offspring, but that's clearly contradicted by the Realms source. However, the Dragon magazine article also says they are separate species...
...Their breeding works as follows: gulguthras produce eggmass and regurgitate it, then another gulguthra can take it into its mouth and expel it. The first gulguthra has produced the eggmass, and the second one has fertilized it. Once the newborn gulguthra has been left for a while, it will develop into the gulguthra that provided the eggmass (not the one that fertilized it). Example: "An otyugh eggmass will only produce another otyugh, and likewise for the neo-otyugh, even though either species can fertilize the eggmass". ~ Possessed Priest (talk) 15:56, April 14, 2020 (UTC)
