Villain's Lorebook page 13 claims that Phalse was likely to be a Hordling. Every Hordling has a unique form which can vary in a multitude of different ways. They're Neutral Evil outsiders native to Tarterus but their intelligence didn't exceed average according to their Monstrous Compendium entry. hashtalk 15:16, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

- It was never really stated what he was in fiction, just implied to be a beholder-like fiend. Him being a hordling was added to a later sourcebook, and it felt like just to assign a species to him. I think hordling works due to them being from Tarterus, and it was the same plane Dragonbait was captured to use him to create Alias...
