Tarilyn Kendrick was a princess of the ruling Kendrick family of the kingdom of Callidyrr in the Moonshae Isles in the late 15th and into the 16th century DR.[1][4]
Personality[]
She was intelligent and excelled at diplomacy. The humans of the Moonshaes, Ffolk and Northlander alike, adored her as a leader.[3]
Abilities[]
Tarilyn wielded magic, and was evidently quite proficient with it.[5]
Relationships[]
She was the eldest daughter of High King Derid Kendrick.[1]
She married Prince Araithe of Sarifal, and their daughter was Caitlyn Kendrick. Araithe took on many of the responsibilities of raising Caitlyn.[4]
History[]
She was born in the Year of Three Goddesses Blessing, 1461 DR. When she was sixteen years old, her father offered her hand in in marriage to Prince Araithe, the son of Sarifal's High Lady Ordalf. High King Derid sought a political alliance with the fey of Sarifal, and hoped that this arrangement would secure access to the ruined city of Caer Corwell, ancient seat of the Kendricks, which the High King hoped to reestablish despite humans having been banned from the isle of Gwynneth by Ordalf decades prior.[1][2]
Tarilyn had relocated to the Sarifal capital city of Karador as of the Year of the Ageless One, 1479 DR, where she stayed as Prince Araithe's guest.[2] At this time, Araithe held no love for or interest in her save for her usefulness as a political tool.[1]
Before any marriage could be finalized, Tarilyn's youngest brother, Prince Owaren, was killed by Lady Erliza Daressin, the vampire governor of Amnian-occupied Snowdown. This event moved High Lady Ordalf to offer an alliance with the Kendricks, ostensibly motivated by her sympathy at the thought of losing Araithe. Tarilyn and Araithe thus led a combined army to liberate Snowdown and avenge Owaren. They attacked at Caer Westphal where Tarilyn herself not only slew Lady Erliza, but permanently destroyed her with magic. Although Snowdown was free, the vampire's dying words inflicted the Rusting upon the Moonshaes.[5][note 1]
Tarilyn and Araithe were married shortly thereafter to solidify their alliance, and they soon had a daughter, Caitlyn, who was understood to be the heir to both of their kingdoms.[4] Despite the politics and tragedy that had marked the start of their relationship, the pair were happy together.[3]
Later, the realm of Sarifal was forced to retreat to the Winterglen forest after Karador was destroyed by their fey enemies. With High Lady Ordalf's grip over southern Gwynneth broken, Tarilyn led a reclamation of Caer Corwell for the Kendricks. She oversaw the arrival of human merchants and crafters, and by the turn of the 16th century DR, the fallen kingdom of Corwell was swiftly reestablished. As of this time, she and her family and come to dwell at Caer Corwell, where she had become a beloved leader.[3]

Notes[]
- ↑ Canon sources do not provide specific years for the connected sequential events of the death of Owaren Kendrick, the expulsion of Amn from Snowdown, the death of Erliza Daressin, the start of the Rusting, and the birth of Caitlyn Kendrick. These events are discussed in Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerûn (set 1501 DR), but this sourcebook gives conflicting timeline information: it implies at different points that these events occurred "a century ago" (p. 178), "decades" ago (p. 178), and "two decades" ago (p. 172). Given the ambiguity, this wiki elects to use the version of the timeline that is most consistent with prior editions ("two decades"). Owaren Kendrick therefore must have died between 1479 DR (his last prior mention in a canon source, Dungeon #196: "Backdrop: Moonshae Isles") and 1486 DR (the latest possible year for which Caitlyn Kendrick's quote on p. 179 of Adventures in Faerûn can be true: "[Owaren] died before I was born, and I'm already older than he ever got to be": Owaren would be 15 if he died in 1486 DR, while Caitlyn would be 15 in 1501 DR if she was born later that same year). Thus, this wiki will use "early 1480s DR" to refer to the dates of the above events. Note that this contradicts the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (assumed to be set 1489 DR), which states that Erliza Daressin and Amn still occupy Snowdown. This discrepancy could be attributed to an unreliable narrator for that section of the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide: the information is attributed to an in-universe book, Fifty Years at Sea, Volume the Third, by Gardorra Burr. Regardless, the timeline derived from the more recent Adventures in Faerûn (published 2025) takes precedent over the older Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (2015) per this wiki's Canon Policy.
