This template returns the IPA character(s) for a single phoneme from an English phonetic respelling as links to Help:Pronunciation guides. The hover text of the links provide an English example. Do not use this template directly; it is intended for use within {{GetIPASyllable}}.

The template only accepts lower-case letters. The phoneme may have a maximum of three letters. The returned IPA phoneme may have anywhere from one to four characters.

y returns "j" and never "aɪ". eye or eye return "aɪ".

If the phoneme is not recognized, the template will output "?" and tag the article as needing attention.
