This template is supposed to provide an easy way of switching between locations and inhabitants categories for a given place. I'm not sure what I think of this though. See it in action on Category:Locations in the Delimbiyr Vale. Any opinions? Fw190a8 17:46, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Extension?Edit

I think this template is of great help. I would have the following suggestion for further improvement:
In many cases additional links could be helpful that are more difficult to standardize. For example for Zakhara not only inhabitants, organzations, locations and settlements would be interesting, but also Category:Al-Qadim sourcebooks and Category:Zakharan pantheon. One could also think about items from..., prestige classes from..., etc.
I have no idea about formatting in wikia, but would it be possible to include spaces for user-defined links in the template, ideally an undefined number of them? Daranios 09:46, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

We already have the Inhabitants, Settlements, Locations and Organizations. Your suggestion for Items (Items from Silverymoon, Items from the Abyss, etc) is a good one, but so far there are very few articles of this type. With regard to "Prestige classes from...", I believe adding this to the template would be of limited use because of the relatively few prestige classes (a few hundred). It would be difficult to create a template that allows an unlimited number of user-defined links, but specific ones (like the Items one) can definitely be added. Fw190a8 14:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, what do you think about sourcebooks and deities I mentioned? Both are interesting in my opinion, but both might not conform to a standard like Category:Deities from name of location. Daranios 18:29, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Extension!Edit

I have included five (is that too many?) additional lines in this template, where user-defined categories can be added by including the lines:
| additional1 = name of category 1
| additional2 = name of category 2
| additional3 = name of category 3
| additional4 = name of category 4
| additional5 = name of category 5
See the new version in action here and please tell me what you think about it.
If that version should be accepted, I have now idea how to modify the description of this template, however. Daranios 15:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Please update Template:Category jump/doc to update the documentation for this template. The usual practice is to put the documentation inside a template which is only called inside the <noinclude> tag of the template, so that the documentation isn't processed by the wiki engine every time the template is generated on a page. Creatures linkEdit

There has been a suggestion or a request for a "Creatures" link added to this, for a category page like Category:Locations in Acheron, which looks a bit messy with the "Creatures found in Acheron" link tacked on as an additional category (although I think that is what they're for). I can add this easily, but since this template is used for everything under the sun and underground, I don't want to encourage the creation of lots of overly specific categories, like "Creatures found in Sevenecho", "Creatures found on the North Road" or even "Creatures found in the Vast". Another possibility is to add a linkname1, linkname2, etc. to this template so that additional1, additional2, etc., can be presented in a more compact form. So, thoughts? opinions? suggestions? —Moviesign (talk) 22:17, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

Either solution would be fine for me, but I would prefer the one with the possibility to add linknames for exactly the reasons you mentioned. After all the creatures addition to the category jump only comes for the planes, which duplicate as location and terrain type (though I would not object against "Creatures found in Zakhara" and "Creatures found in Kara-Tur" :-).
