The Hungry Mouth was a unique magic devised by the Red Wizard Iyrtaryld in the mid-to-late 14th century DR.[1]
Effects[]
The spell created a moving portal that vacuumed everything around the target area, which could be all the way across Faerûn; its Thayvian creator intended to target the lands across the Raurin. Everything vacuumed into the portal was teleported to a place strongly implied to be in the vicinity of the caster. The caster could also be replaced while casting, handing over the task of maintaining concentration, so as to sustain the effect continuously rather than restart it.[1]
History[]
In 1369 DR, the creator of the spell Iyrtaryld discussed it with a cabal of Red Wizards including the mages Olorus, Thaltar Glaervar, Quaerlesz, Dlamaerztus and Norlarram, alongside six others and himself. He announced a reduction in the rate of backlashes during handover between mages. There was some attempted discussion of what would happen if it sucked in a mage, or an active dangerous spell effect, but before that could be settled they were all assassinated by the Simbul.[1]
