The Maelstrom's Eye by Roger E. Moore is book three in the Cloakmaster Cycle, a six-book series for the Spelljammer campaign setting. It begins on the Rock of Bral.

From an elven admiral at the Rock of Bral, Teldin Moore learns more about his cloak's past and its potential powers—but he doesn't count on being caught up in the hurricane of the second Unhuman War. Vengeful humanoids rampage through the Known Spheres, and they're on Teldin's trail even as he hunts for the ultimate spacefaring ship of all: the mighty Spelljammer!

Synopsis[]

The Probe, now captained by Teldin Moore's friend Aelfred Silverhorn, docks at the Rock of Bral so that Teldin can follow a lead given him by the wizard Vallus Leafbower regarding his magic cloak. Vallus had suggested he visit the elves of Evermeet, but Teldin thought that visiting the elven embassy of Bral would suffice. On his way, he passes through the Greater Market of Bral and runs into an exuberant young girl named Gaye, who convinces him to visit a tavern to try some chicken cooked by halflings. After the meal, Teldin is shocked to learn that Gaye is a kender and finds a way to excuse himself and enter the Elven Forest.[1]

Notes[]

  1. The year is deduced from the date for the prequel, Into the Void, being given as 1361 DR in the "Presenting . . . Seven Millennia of Realms Fiction" article from Wizards of the Coast, (also published in Dragon #196); the fact that Into the Void describes its entire story taking place in little more than 78 days, (See pp. 168, 172, 184, and 206); and p. 7 of The Maelstrom's Eye, which claims that Teldin had left his home of Krynn "just half a year ago". At the very latest, if Into the Void ended in Nightal of 1361, the last month of the year, The Maelstrom's Eye could thus not begin any later than the first few months of 1362 DR. The events of The Maelstrom's Eye are completed within a few months. (See pp. 89 and 166.)
