These Men of Zhentil Keep was a crude sea shanty popular among pirates and buccaneers of the Moonshae Isles in the late 14th century DR.[1]
“
They're far from staid after a raid,
These men of Zhentil Keep.
They kill off all the women,
For they much prefer the sheep.
The men don't eat their ill-got treat.
Not one of them's a glutton.
So isn't it a marvel
That they always smell of mutton?
These men of Zhentil Keep.
They kill off all the women,
For they much prefer the sheep.
The men don't eat their ill-got treat.
Not one of them's a glutton.
So isn't it a marvel
That they always smell of mutton?
”
— Tzigone, the hero of the Battle of Akhlaur's Swamp
History[]
The song was brought to the southern wizardly nation of Halruaa by an infamous 14th century DR pirate named Old Bess who, in exchange for care and healing, taught navigation, tides, currents, and shared tales of fierce sea battles at the Jordaini College.[1]
