Thorass was the name of the alphabet used by the large majority of human languages on Faerûn, including Common.[1][2]
The alphabet was first developed for use with the Thorass language by a scribe whose name has been lost to history[1] and was spurred by interactions between the kingdoms of Jhaamdath and Calimshan.[3] It was influenced by the runes of the Untheric language.[4]
Thorass was the script used in Common, Alzhedo, Chessentan, Chondathan, Durpari, Illuskan, Midani (in Anauroch only), Rasallesian, Tuigan, Turmic, and Uluik.[1]
