Thoss Balein was Master of Waterdeep's Solemn Order of Recognized Furriers and Woolmen in the mid–14th century DR.[1][2]

He was an extraordinarily conservative, uncompromising, and ruthless guildmaster.[1][2]

As Master of his guild, Thoss implemented a series of policy changes. These included refusing to accept new members for the entirety of his tenure, and encouraging wealthy guild members to buy out their less-moneyed peers from the organization.[1][2]

Thoss was born in the Year of the Singing Skull, 1297 DR, and was elected Master of the Solemn Order in the Year of the Wanderer, 1338 DR when his predecessor died.[1] Under his leadership, the Order's membership decreased by 25% while revenues grew by 40%.[2]
