Appendix[]

Notes[]

  1. The deva is unnamed, but is presumed to be the same deva that was described in the Planescape boxset Planes of Chaos as being a prisoner in the city of Utgard.

Background[]

  • The adventure notably seems to take inspiration from the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning (chapter 44), of Thor & Loki's visit to the hall of Utgard-Loki. In both the story and module, the protagonists are challenged by giants within a hall to a series of four contests — eating, drinking, running, and wrestling. Additionally, the giantish champions faced in each contest were given the same names as those that were faced by Thor and Loki — Logi in eating, Hugi in running, and an aged giantess named Elli in wrestling.[1]
