Thyme was a species of fragrant herb that received culinary usage across Faerûn and as far as the continent of Zakhara.[5][2][1]
Availability[]
Thyme was found in the kitchens of Waterdeep[1] or Phlan in the Moonsea region[4] and grown in herb gardens of Ravens Bluff in the Vast[7] and Sarahin, a fortress in the Haunted Lands of Zakhara.[5]
Thyme was sold through Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue, offered through Aurora's Larder section for a single sp per ounce.[8]
Usages[]
Roasted cockatrice recipe from the City of Splendors, Waterdeep, included thyme.[9] In the Moonsea region, thyme and fennel were used to flavor rabbit soup.[10] Rabbit pâté was prepared with parsley and thyme, in the town of Gladehap in Cormyr.[3] And in the city of Baldur's Gate, the Blushing Maiden Inn served a quality dish of pork, thyme, and mushrooms.[2]
Medicine[]
Some believed that thyme possessed some medicinal qualities – antiseptic and blood purifying.[11] The obscure school of magic called foodomancy had a recipe for a magically imbued dragonblood soup and it called for thyme.[12]
Magic[]
In the days of ancient Netheril, thyme was a common sight in a mage's laboratory, among many other components.[6]
Trivia[]
Brown dragons were known to appreciate flavoring and seasoning. One could find spices such as sea salt, sage, thyme, and others, stored within a brown dragon's lair.[13]
