Todd Lockwood was born in Boulder, Colorado and went on to graduate from the Colorado Institute of Art. He did freelance advertising work for fifteen years, managing to win several awards whilst also spending his free time playing Dungeons & Dragons. Inspired by artists such as Brom, Todd began doing artwork for sci-fi/fantasy magazines before going to work for Chaosium and Phil Foglio. He was then referred to TSR, Inc.'s art director at the time, Stephen Daniele in 1996 and has worked on TSR/Wizards of the Coast products ever since.

In the Forgotten Realms, Todd is best known as the artist behind many of the Legend of Drizzt novel covers as well as the artwork for several sourcebooks.
