Tuna, also known as bluefin, were a common species of fish in the realms.[1][2]
Species[]
- Skipjack tuna
- A rather small species of tuna found in the Sea of Moving Ice. They were prized for their lean red meat, which due to its low fat content was often enjoyed only lightly seared.[4]
- Yellow-fin tuna
- A species of tuna seared and serves as a meal in the north.[4]
Ecology[]
Habitats[]
In interior Faerûn, tuna inhabited the Sea of Fallen Stars[3] and the Dragon Reach.[5] In west Faerun, they could be found in the Amnian river of Imnestream.[6] In northwest Faerun, they could be found in many of Luruar's rivers.[7] In southwest Faerûn, they could be found in the Shining Sea.[8] In the Unapproachable East, they could be found in the waters around Aglarond.[9]
Beyond Faerûn, tuna could be found in the Celestial Sea and the Sea of Patience around Wa.[10][11]
Usages[]
- In Aglarond, fishermen often traded tuna at the market in Velprintalar.[12]'
- The Painted Boat, a restaurant in the Dragon Reach off the southern edge of the Harbor District of Ravens Bluff, was supplied with tuna by The Flying Fish, a single mainsail sloop owned by the establishment. Tuna were offered among the restaurant's menu of fish at a cost of one silver piece.[5]
- In Port Nyanzaru of Chult, sea tuna was stewed into asa wat, with lentils, red onions, and spicy berbere spice.[8]
