Ubbalux was an imprisoned barlgura in Avernus, first layer of the Nine Hells, in the late 15th century DR.[1]

History[]

Once, archdevil Bel defeated Ubbalux and imprisoned him inside a circle of obelisks, telling him that the secret of escaping was inside the runes inscribed into the obelisks. From then on, Ubbalux studied the runes but with no fortune.[1]

In the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR,[note 1] Ubbalux was posing as a human wizard, one whom he had previously devoured, hoping to manipulate the next visitors the circle in order to gain their help.[1]

Notes[]

  1. Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus is set in 1492 DR per the "Baldur's Gate Gazetteer" section (p. 159) and a clarification from the adventure's lead writer. Baldur's Gate III, which is a direct sequel to Descent into Avernus set immediately after its events, is also set in 1492 DR. In an apparent error, pages 7 and 47 of Descent into Avernus describes certain events as occurring "fifty years" after the Companion's appearance in 1444 DR (which would set the adventure in 1494 DR). Regardless of whether this was an error, Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn reports both the 1444 DR appearance of the Companion and the 1492 DR events of Descent into Avernus as correct.
