My Unfortunate and Embarrassing Character Death
So I was recently playing Tomb of Annihilation as a dwarf fighter with my group, and we were rowing towards the giant earthen heart-shaped island that is floating in Chult. As we were rowing, we saw a little bit of land with this flower and a dwarf-looking figure on it. We went up to the island, quickly found out it the dwarf was a zombie, and killed it, but not before the zombie dealt 5 damage to me, reducing me to 30 health.
I didn't really take any concern with this, but as I was preparing to see how far I could hit the zombie's head with my warhammer (to have a little bit of fun), the flower (yellow musk flower) started to move towards me. My character had encountered a living plant before in the campaign, so I just decided to go smack one of its vines with my warhammer. Well, I found out that the plant had the regen ability, and it then attacked me with the vine I hit that just popped right back up. My DM rolled a natural 20, which made the attack a critical hit that did in total 31 damage, which reduced me to 0 health.
I wasn't too panicked since we had a cleric and paladin in the group, but when they went to heal me, we found out that the plant killed me by dropping me to 0hp instead of knocking my character out, and it had also planted a seed in me. The cleric figured out that this seed would turn me into a zombie, and she wanted to mutilate me to prevent me from being a threat. A small argument broke out between her and the paladin to figure out what to do as me and the DM just stood there in disbelief. Eventually, the seed was removed with a successful medicine check and we had a quick little funeral for my character.
Has anyone else had some unfortunate encounters with this plant? If so, feel free to share them to me.
