Ven Salafin was an Uthgardt human of the Elk tribe of the Evermoors in the Savage Frontier in the late 14th century DR.[1][2][3]
Relationships[]
He was the brother of Sven Salafin.[1][2]
History[]
In the conflict known as the Battle of the Evermoors sometime around 1400 DR,[note 1] the Elk tribe battled the Cult of the Dragon for control of the Helmet of Disjunction.[1][4][3] Unfortunately, Ven's brother Sven died in an accident that morning.[2] Although the Elk warriors outnumbered the Dragon Cultists, they had the black dragon Rakor on their side and vomiting acid on the barbarians' ranks. Chief Stanhard Grimwulf ordered a retreat and entrusted the helmet to his fastest rider, Ven Salafin, to get it away from Rakor however he could before the chief was dissolved in acid as well.[1][5]
But as he escaped the battle with the helm, Ven was injured and lost his horse. He was forced to crawl to safety, then collapsed, and lay dying. At last, he was met by the heroic Thayan paladin Xenk Yendar, who inspected his wounds but could not help him, and promised to keep safe the Helmet. Believing him, Ven gave up the helm and expired.[1][2][3] The fallen Elk tribesmen were buried at a sacred burial ground on the site.[1][6]
A century later, in the late 1490s DR,[note 2] the body of Ven Salafin was exhumed by Edgin Darvis, Simon Aumar, Doric, and Holga Kilgore (a member of the Elk tribe herself). Using Simon's deathly token to speak with the dead, they questioned Ven's corpse over the fate of the Helmet of Disjunction, but Edgin was scornful, insisting to Ven that the Thayan had lied. They departed, but with more questions left, Edgin asked Ven what his favorite book was, but it would take him some time to decide.[1][2] In fact, Ven's corpse would be left waiting quite some time for someone to ask him the final question.[1]
Personality[]
Having an eclectic interest in historical works of the Art, Ven listed The Fanged Tome of Lykanthus Szar[1][2] and Galadaster's Orizon as among his favorites.[2]
Appendix[]
Background[]
Sven Salafin is played alive by actor Daniel Campbell and as a corpse by actor Paul Lancaster.
Notes[]
- ↑ The battle is undated but is "a century ago" from the date of Honor Among Thieves, which is itself undated but assumed to be the late 1490s DR. The Year of the Exorcised Helm, 1402 DR, is a likely candidate.
- ↑ The Honor Among Thieves movie and its tie-ins are as yet undated. As discussed here, from the condition of Castle Never and Dagult Neverember's reign, this wiki estimates a date of the late 1490s DR for the main events of the movie. Prequels and flashback scenes are set up to 11 years before this.
