William Windsphere was the bartender of the Old Man's Face in the Cormyrean village of Tyrluk in the late 15th century DR.[1][note 1]
History[]
…But it's a bit hard to get out of.
In the mid-1480s DR, William had given a spare key to his tavern to the innkeeper of the Old Man's Face, Branson Blackboot, in case he locked himself outside the tavern. William's tavern was visited by the Cormyrean adventurer-noble Oriphaun Huntsilver, who hid a fragment of the Abyssal Planus Mechanus Nether Scroll at the Old Man's Face by scribbling a promise of payment for services rendered on the blank side of the scroll, which William pinned up in the taproom amid other receipts and notes.[1]
Soon after, an army of sellswords led by the Shadovar wizard Tarys came down the High Road and broke into the inn in search of it. While William hid himself in a crate in the tavern's basement, Branson locked himself in his office, where he stayed until rescued by Harper adventurers also searching for the scroll fragment. Branson gave the adventurers his key to the barn, where he kept the tavern key that they then used to rescue William (who was also stuck inside his crate). After defeating Tarys the confused William led them to where the Nether Scroll had been put in plain sight, where everyone had walked past it.[1]

Notes[]
- ↑ Menace of the Underdark (including Web of Chaos) is dated to the period of 1484–1485 DR, as it references the ongoing Darkening. Shadowfell Conspiracy (including Disciples of Shadow, Shadow Under Thunderholme, The Druid's Deep, and The High Road of Shadows) are dated to the same period, as they are stated to take place at roughly the same time as Menace of the Underdark.
