Yeshpek was a large fortified city in the Land of the Lions region of south Faerûn.[1]

Etymology[]

Yeshpek was referred to by some as the City of Chains, due to its primary export. As for its proper name, a number of commentators and mapmakers in the lands north of Land of the Lions were known to misspell it on several occasions as Yeslipek. This was due to the city's name appearing blurry on a primary source map from the Fifth Age of Calimshan.[2]

Geography[]

This city was situated to the northwest of Tulmon,[2] along the Narrows Trail.[3] From its place along the Lake of Steam, Yeshpek dominated the natural harbor of Bezrim Bay.[2]

Trade[]

Yeshpek was a center of trade of fishing.[2] It was known for its exportation of finely wrought chains,[2][1] of different sizes and strengths,[1] as well as locks. It was also known for trading of crabs and clams. Beyond that, its populace crafted a variety of small everyday goods, such as belts, carry-coffers, jugs, and sharpening steels.[2]

Inhabitants[]

As of 1372 DR, its population was around 23,000,[2][1] with 19,000 of them being proper citizens of the city and other 4,200 being laborers who lived on its outskirts.[2]

Beyond Yeshpek, elsewhere in the Realms its inhabitants were often known for being mercenaries[2][1] or caravan guards,[2] often reckless ones who opposed authority.[2][1] They were also known for being critical of others and viewing ostentatious shows of wealth and spending to be wasteful, despite displaying pride over their own goods.[1]
