Ylondan the Tall was a Red Wizard of Thay in the mid-14th century DR.[1]

'Falling stones humble even the mightiest zulkir'— that one? Or do you mean the one about not hurling meteor swarms when a bolt of lightning will do?
— Ylondan the Tall, discussing strategy, 1369 DR

Description[]

Known as "Ylondan the Tall", he was presumably tall.[1]

Personality[]

Though still overconfident and reckless, he was willing to take a few moments to discuss strategy before engaging in tough fights. He was also notably spiteful.[1]

Abilities[]

He was known to be able to cast ironguard and at least one other spell he could use to shatter ceilings.[1] Either his skills or those of Largrond were considered to outstrip Azmyrandyr's.[2]

Possessions[]

He wore numerous rings.[1]

Relationships[]

At the time of his death, he was a guest in a Sharran temple alongside Largrond. He was a Red Wizard.[2]

History[]

In 1369 DR, the Simbul assaulted a temple of Shar somewhere in Thay where the Red Wizard Azmyrandyr was preparing for an intrigue. Her goal was a revenge attack after Azmyrandyr participated in an attack on Silverymoon. After slaying Azmyrandyr and his apprentices, she continued to slay around the temple; the temple master, Maeldur, called on one of his underlings to rouse two visitors, those being Ylondan and Largrond.[2]

The two quickly joined the fight after casting ironguard; before attacking, Ylondan tripped Staenyn, the priest who had called them to the fray. The two Red Wizards discussed briefly their strategy, right in front of her. Largrond cast an antimagic field, while Ylondan cast a spell to shatter the ceiling on top of her. They were aiming at a projected image of hers instead of the real her, who cast a spell to portal the rubble on top of them, killing them instantly.[1]
