Zelphar Arunsun was a powerful human wizard, originally from Neverwinter. He was the son of Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun and married Lhestyn. His children are Khelben Arunsun the Younger, who is often confused with the Blackstaff, and Cassandra Thann, matriarch of the winemaking House Thann. Zelphar was killed by magical means, although his killer was never discovered.[1]

Vampiress Shyressa and one of her fellow lich Runemasters watching with glee through a crystal ball as Zelphar Arunsun is murdered by a casting of Bigby's crushing hand by an agent of the Twisted Rune.
In 1311 DR, Zelphar was killed by Bigby's crushing hand, a spell cast by a lich of the Twisted Rune, as a favour to the Shadow Thieves.[2]
